Technology Access For All
Our Impact
The Free Computing Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to provide free access to computers and mobile devices for disadvantaged community members. We collect computers and tablet donations, refurbish them, securely destroy all personal data on media drives, and distribute these devices to people in need.
Our inspiration stems from the inequality that exists in access to information and technology. Our goal is to break down opportunity barriers caused by lack of access to technological resources that many take for granted. The privilege of computer access facilitates an individual's education and professional development, and as such, we strive to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity at accessing a computer to bridge the technology gap between privileged and underprivileged members of our communities.
We aspire not only to deliver every computer and mobile device in perfect working condition, but also to provide training and technical support to any recipient that requires it.
How It Works
FCP receives donations (computers, tablets, phones, monitors, keyboards, mice, and various parts) from companies and our local community members
Donate to underprivileged individuals who are in need of a computer in partnership with local charity organizations such as homeless shelters and youth programs
Careful analysis of system health and status of parts, repair of damaged components, and destruction of personal data on media drives
Installation of free and legally distributable open source software, including the GNU/Linux operating system and all applications necessary for basic computer use
